Unearthing the Mysteries: Carly’s Journey with a Precious Taonga

Friends of the Museum Talk

Don't miss this chance to dive into fascinating discussions and connect with fellow museum enthusiasts.

Our guest speaker is Carly Vevers.

Carly is a curator in the Western Bay Museum’s collection store, caring for, cataloguing, and researching objects in the collection. She is from Invercargill and is of Kāti Māmoe and Kāi Tahu, Scottish, English, and Irish descent, and now lives in Tauranga with her British husband, Mark, and their son, Lochlan. Carly holds a degree in History and a New Zealand Diploma in Records and Information Management, and is currently working towards a Masters in Museum Studies through Massey University.

Carly will be sharing her research into a very precious and mysterious taonga in our collection. This research was undertaken with the assistance of many curators around the country, as well as archaeologists and geologists. Their voluntary cooperation and involvement demonstrates the intrigue and curiosity that such a simple object can provoke.

The event is free for Friends of the Museum, with a koha requested from non-members.
